Family Violence
Under the scope of the Family Violence Program and the Sexual Assault Program the following services are offered:
- Shelter – As a part of the First Step emergency shelter services, residents are provided a safe, secure temporary residence for 30 days along with food and clothing. While at the shelter, residents are asked to follow house rules, policies, and maintain confidentiality of the other clients, as well as share in the responsibilities of running the First Step household.
- Counseling – This includes our 24 hour crisis hotline (940-692-1993 or 800-658-2683), individual and group counseling to both victims of family violence and sexual assault and/or to their families. First Step provides emotional support to our clients, while assisting them in identifying all possible options and giving them the information needed to help them make more knowledgeable decisions.
- Advocacy – This involves providing support to the client by accompanying and assisting the client while working with other community agencies. This includes, but is not limited to, hospitals, legal agencies, and schools.
- Referrals – When First Step is not able to meet the individuals needs, we help by referring them to the appropriate agency that can help them.
